Following the sudden defection of the House of Representatives candidate of the People Democratic Party, PDP, for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Owolabi Balogun, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, speculation is rife within the state capital that the former chairman of Abeokuta South local government,, Abiodun Ajayi may emerge the candidate for the party.
Ajayi, who served as the chairman of the local government in the past, had come second to Owolabi during the PDP primaries
Sources close to the former LG boss confirmed to our correspondent in Abeokuta that there have been moves within the leadership of the PDP in the state, persuading Ajayi to take up the challenge.
The sources however did not confirm whether or not Ajayi had accepted to fly PDP flag.
If the former chairman eventually run for the position, it will no doubt be a game changer as people of his constituency have not forgotten his exploits while serving as chairman.
It is on record that he touched every facet of human endeavour in the local area covering education, health, safety and the economy.
He constructed schools and rehabilitated some. He initiated the daily cleaning of the roads in the metropolis and left other enduring legacies.
Speaking with our reporter, a resident of Itoko, Mr Azeez Kufile said the people of the federal constituency would want him to contest for the position saying he must come to replicate what he did as chairman.
He said, " Ajayi must contest for the position. If it take begging we must begin. When he was chairman, he transformed the local government all round. He touched education, roads and everything.
"He means quality. He means service. He is a man of his word. He is a politician ready to make a difference at every opportunity.
