YEWA AGENDA: OGUNWOOLU BATTLES AMOSUN, SHOCK CRITICS WITH DETAILS

...says Yewa is not in Ogun state gazette

One of the foremost politicians in Ogun state, Hon Sarafadeen Ogunwoolu has said that he will never relent in exposing the truth about the history of the state to those who claim to be historian while they knew nothing, particularly in terms of picking leaders for people of the state.

Hon. Ogunwoolu while reacting to some critics about his recent release he issued out saying "Amosun’s decision in picking the next governor for the people of the state is selfish and of no substance."

Recall that, in his recent release, Ogunwoolu, a Prince argued that "the Yewa agenda many people were clamouring for today is nothing but a political gimic of confusionists to the people of Ogun state."

He also alleged the governor, Ibikunle Amosun saying that “Amosun’s pronouncement or choice of successor from Yewa remain the major cause of the unpredictable situation of Governorship Election in 2019, his accession is personal, selfish and of no substance to the Ogun State Politics.”

The Abeokuta based politician, who was also the former principal organizing secretary to Ogun state Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) between 1979 and 1983 said many of his critics lack details about the history of the state, most especially when it comes to politics.

When tendering his six-pages papers titled 'Where Should Ogun State Governor 2019 Come From" to POLITICAL GLADIATORS, Ogunwoolu said that many, particularly Ajibola Dapo Oke had criticised him based on fabricated facts and lies, hence he will continue to open their eyes to the truth of the matter for better understanding of Ogun state politics with historical facts.

The four pages paper which he titled 'Where Should Ogun State Governor 2019 Come From?' read thus:

WHERE SHOULD OGUN STATE GOVERNOR 2019 COME FROM?

My attention has just been drawn to the reaction of one Ajibola Dapo Oke whose comment began with “A Satan cannot tell the story of the Kingdom of God” this shows the type of person he is. Who is Satan?

As a Nigerian, who the provisions of the constitution Chapter IV, Section 34 and other sections endowed with some fundamental rights has the right to air or respond to newspaper reports which I did.

Please note that the Provisions of the constitution, Western State Government Gazette, and other Ogun State Government documents were quoted as references in my response, and I believed if you are reasonable enough you will endeavours to get copy of the document, read, before you started your hear-say comments.

I still maintain my stand that Ogun State was created from 6 out of the 37 Local Government of the Old Western States or 2 old provinces in Nigeria, are these fact not genuine?

The fact remain that Abeokuta/Egba province has Egba Local Governments with Abeokuta as its headquarters, Otta Local Government which comprise Otta-Ifo etc and Egbado Local Government which comprise the Egbado, Egun, Anogo and Ketu; Ijebu Province has Ijebu Local Government, which was created out of the merger of Ijebu-ode and Ijebu-Igbo Local Governments to become one local Government, Waterside Local Government and Remo Local Government.

Just as Nigeria came into Existence in 1914 out of the Amalgamation of the Southern and Northern Protectorate, perhaps you will understand that there are about 126 Ethnic groups in Nigeria, and not only the Yorubas, Hausa/Fulani and Ibos which are believed to be majority.

Today, it is not written in the Nigerian Constitution that Presidency shall be shared among the South and North or have you any memorandum of understanding to this effect?.

There is no way you can have today without the past, DO you believe the merger of the Two Provinces, if not, endevours to look for those references, made  in my statements, Gazette are Government publications and could be traced through Government Press or National Archives.

Abeokuta Province has the Egbas, Aworis, Egbados, Egun, Anago and Ketus, each of them differ in dialect or tribe but are refer to as Yorubas.

Before the creation of Ogun State, they all live together as one family. In 1979, the issue of Deji Odebiyi, Otegbeye contesting for Governorship seat in Ogun State was far from the truth, they contested in 1983. Your assertion that Chief Awolowo, sensitizing Chief Bisi Onabanjo on who he taught could be Governor then was to know his opinion, the maiden speech of Chief Olabisi Onabanjo as Governor affirmed his ambition to become Governor of Ogun State, and not just by accident as claimed by Ajibola Dayo Oke, words like principles of transfer of power, among its major components, emergence of Chief Onabanjo through efforts of Chief Awolowo through consultation of leadership beyond whims and caprices of provincial fantasy remain another proof that some leaders were met before Onabanjo became the choice of Governor from Ijebu and before he was accepted by generality of people of Ogun State; hence not only Awolowo did it, politicizing and maneuvers, made it possible through notable leaders across the state.

Nobody including Ogunwoolu is in doubt of the leadership of Chief Jonathan A.O. Odebiyi, a former School Principal, First appointed Chairman of Egbado, Local Government and been a Minister of Finance, Leader of the parliament,  who  led Egbado delegates to  St. Leos Teacher Training, Onikoko, Abeokuta venue of 1983 primaries / congress elect the 1983 Governor of Ogun State.

If not for the excuse of marginalization and the decision of the Egbados not to vote for Soji Odunjo, the election would have favoured someone from Abeokuta Province to correct the greed of Onabanjo then, Abeokuta Province Local Government has the largest number of delegates at the congress.

But let me correct the impression that Ado-Odo-Ota is part of Egbado, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area is dominated by the Egbas and Aworis, no settlement in Ado-odo-ota Local Government belongs to the Egbados.

Abeokuta/Egba Province comprise with the Egbas, Egba Otta, Egbados,  Aworis, Egun, Anago, and Ketus as different ethnics.

If Egbado people will be agitating or aspire to become Ogun State Governor, there is nothing disturbing other ethnics in the state from contesting Governorship as they do not believe in Zoning.

Ijebu Province also has the Ijebus, the Egunres; people from Waterside, other tribes, while Remo is another group.

By your submission, is it not clear that Onabanjo and Soji Odunjo has the same number of votes at the Congress in 1983, while the Egbado which are referred to as part of the three (3) Local Government in Abeokuta Province, but decide to spoil the congress by sharing their 10 votes 4-6, which indicated that they do not support the other two Local Governments that voted for Odunjo at the Election.

If Onabanjo is dead, Osoba is alive, ask him why he choose to run for the third (3rd) term and why he was defeated upon all his expenditure.

Seven local governments were initially created then through Gazette No. WSL.N. 18 of 1973, Gazette No. 19 Vol 22 of May 1973 Part B beginning from Page B39 has Egba Local Government Council at Page B46, Ijebu Local Government Council at Page B54, Ijebu-Igbo Local Government Council at Page B55, Egbado Local Government Council at Page B60, followed by Ijebu Water side Local Government Council at Page B62, Ijebu Remo Local Government Council at Page B65, and Otta Local Government Council at Page B68, each of them has their common seal/logo (See Appendix A below).

The case of Egbado Local Government differs, it has 13 members quorum and presided over on annual basis by Olu of Ilaro, Oba Ayetoro, Oba of Ibooro, Olu of Imashai, Oba of Ibeshe, Oba of Ipokia, Oba of Ado, Oba of Igbesa, Olobi of Ilobi, Oloke-odan of Oke-Odan, Alashe of Ilashe, Onihunbo of Ihunbo and Oniko of Ikolaje, and they preside alternatively in the above order.

Waterside Local Government is also presided over by Awujale of Ijebu-Land and in his absence any of the Baales in Waterside Local Government Villages will preside while it has 7 Members quorum.

Ijebu Remo Local Government Council is presided over by Akarigbo of Ijebu-Remo and has 11 members as its quorum.

Otta Local Government Council is presided over by Olota of Otta and has seven member quorum.

Appointment of Chairmen, Vice Chairman and member of Management Committee in the Local Government (Interim Provision) Edict of 1972 reduced the Local Government in the merged two provinces to Six Local Governments Councils through the Western State Gazette No 45 Vol 22, Western State Notice No 694 of 1st November, 1970 from Page 733.

Egba Local Government Council has Mr. Olusoji Odunjo Legal Practitioner as Chairman, DR. T.R.A. Otolorin; a Medical Practitioner as his Vice Chairman with 48 other members.

Otta Local Government Council has Mr. A.A. Akinboyede Legal Practitioner as Chairman with 36 other members.

Ijebu Local Government Council has Mr. I. Oluwole Owotomo; a Legal Practitioner as its Chairman, Mr. Olajide Adebanjo; a Chartered Architect as the deputy, with 32 other members.

Ijebu Waterside Local Government Council has Mr. A.B.O. Kalesanwo; a business man and retired L.C.C. official as Chairman, Mr. E.Omo Oriyomi was the Vice Chairman with 21 other members.

Ijebu Remo has Chief L.O. Makanjuola; a teacher as Chairman, Mr. S.A.O. Odunoye; Deputy Registrar, University of Ibadan as the Vice Chairman with 30 other members.

Then, if we state that Ogun State politics is different from other states, as it was created out of the merger of Two Province, with Six Local Government, and each of the Two provinces with Six Local Government, (Egba Local Government, Otta Local Government and Egbado Local Government) (Ijebu Local Government, Waterside Local Government, and Ijebu Remo Local Government).

Then Governorship of Ogun State is shared among the Two provinces, who are you to query or challenge the government Gazette above quoted.

Alhaji Lateef Ogunsiji, Chief Olusegun Osoba are still alive, you can meet them for interview to know whether aspirant from Ijebu Province are not qualified before conceding the 1992 Governorship Contest to Abeokuta Province in both SDP and NRC.

Why did the Progressive Aspirants from Ijebu Province not Contest Governorship with Osoba at the second term in 1999?

Eight year tenure commence from Otunba Gbenga Daniel regime, Amosun is to now balance the Equation of eight year tenure in between the two provinces.

Don’t underrate politicians organize an Ogun State political conference.

Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government is not part of Egbado, rather a settlement of the Aworis and Egbas. Ipokia has Eguns and Anogo tribes, Imeko-Afon, Oke-Agbede, Kanga, Ilara etc are Ketu’s. In Ijebu, we have the Egure’s, the waterside people different from Remo, Ijebu Ode and Ijebu-Igbo. Intensify your effort to know why Six Local Governments were created initially.

Issue of four divisions had been faulted; Section 71(a) of 1999 Constitution has enshrined the purpose of creating three Senatorial Districts. The first schedule of 1999 constitution recognized only Egbado north, Egbado south, convince Nigerians with references and proofs to ascertain your claim of sharing Governorship between Four divisions or three Senatorial Districts.

Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) may consider governorship candidate from Ijebu Province if others chose to have theirs from Yewa.

Alhaji (Hon.) Prince A.S. Ogunwoolu
State Chairman ACPN
