Pioneering Demand for Remo State: A collective call for identity and equity"

Remo leaders, stakeholders, and traditional institutions have declared a firm and independent stance in their long-standing quest for statehood, formally demanding the creation of Remo State, with Sagamu proposed as its capital.

Breaking away from the previous joint pursuit with Ijebu, Remo now seeks a distinct identity and administrative recognition, citing historical, cultural, and economic justifications. This renewed push is led by an influential delegation comprising royal fathers, political leaders, elder statesmen, and respected citizens of Remoland.

In a press briefing at the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland, stakeholders emphasized that their demand is rooted in Remo’s unique cultural identity and republican heritage. The proposed state will include Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo North local governments, alongside other Remo-speaking communities, backed by existing infrastructure, industrial assets, and the strategic Ogun Agro-Cargo Airport.

Speaking at the briefing, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), who represents Ogun East Senatorial District, commended the bold step and pledged to mediate discussions to ensure peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between Remo and Ijebu groups. Other prominent voices, such as Chief S.K. Onafowokan and Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, urged continued dialogue and strategic thinking, while maintaining Remo’s integrity.

The Remo Committee on State Creation, chaired by Aare Dr. Kola Oyefeso, stressed that the movement is peaceful, legal, and people-driven. The committee made it clear that while Remo wishes Ijebu success in its own quest, it will not be part of any proposed state that fails to respect Remo’s autonomy.

With a call for global support from Remo sons and daughters, the committee reaffirmed its readiness to pursue all lawful means to achieve Remo State.

“We remain resolute, and we will not be subsumed", the committee declared.
