Nine people have been killed in a road crash involving a commercial bus and a Sino truck in the Bethel area of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
In statement was signed by chief route commander and sector public education officer, FRSC Ogun State sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi
Odunsi disclosed that the crash occurred at about 4.55pm along the JBD-Ore route within the Ijebu-Ode Unit Command.
According him, “the victims comprised three men and six women. All nine people involved in the crash died ” .
He stated that the vehicles involved were a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus, with registration number 14B-299DT, belonging to Delta Line, and a white Sino Truck, with registration number AAB162XD, operated by Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
The agency said the crash occurred during rainfall, leaving the road wet.
A preliminary investigation identified speed violation as the probable cause of the accident.
He further noted that the FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene three minutes after receiving the report, at about 4.58pm.
The bodies of the victims were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode.
The chief route commander added that the vehicles were subsequently towed to Ilese Police Station by the Ilese Police Motor Traffic Division.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to exercise greater caution while driving in the rain.
Ogunjobi advised motorists to obey speed limits, maintain safe following distances and avoid behaviour that could endanger other road users.
He warned that speeding on wet roads increases the risk of crashes because reduced tyre grip and visibility can make it harder for drivers to control their vehicles or stop safely.
The FRSC expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists and other road users to make safety a priority at all times.
