A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), , has warned the party to review the process and outcome of the Oyo North Senatorial District primary election or risk handing the opposition a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Peters described Oyo North as a strategic senatorial district, saying the APC must present a candidate capable of strengthening the party’s chances in the senatorial, governorship and presidential elections.
He noted that Oyo is one of only four states not currently controlled by the APC, stressing that the party could not afford decisions that would further weaken its electoral prospects.
Peters alleged that the declaration of Hannah Ogunesan as the APC’s candidate for Oyo North Senatorial District did not reflect the outcome of the primary election.
According to him, one of the three aspirants, Dr Gbenga Adebola, won in nine of the 13 local government areas in the district but was not declared the winner.
“The results are there, the elections were concluded, the primaries held, result sheets were entered and returned to the party,” he said.
He alleged that Ogunesan, a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, had a case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in which public funds were returned to the state treasury.
