The Olu of Ilawo Oba Olusegun Alexander has called on the Nigerian youth to deploy their positive strength in ensuring that Nigeria has a good leader that listens and not the one that talks at them, noting that the youth should get involved in politics.
The royal father made the call during a courtesy visit of the Youth to his home Palace at Ilawo Abeokuta the state capital on Wednesday.
The monarch stated that there is no progress without youth empowerment, arguing that in any society where the youths were not active, the society would be dead.
He said, "A working youth is a prosperous youth and a working society is a prosperous society for the youth, so the youth need to place in an area where they will contribute to society positively".
Alexander tasked the youth that the youth must also engage in politics to ensure that they chose the right leaders who listen and not a leader who talks at them positing it is the unique way to a working society.
He explained that education is not the problem in Nigeria, but empowerment is the major problem.
The monarch narrated the story of a young National diploma holder that engaged himself in farming and was forced to lease his farming land by some group of people which brought about suffering on him.
In his words"Violence can be certain if the youth are engaged in various ways to will contribute to the society positively like jobs, engagement in politics and choosing the right leader that listens and not the one that talks at them"
Other specific ways are the empowerment of the people with resources, and giving them access to funding to be able to do what they are good at doing, 'a working youth is prosperous youth and a working society is a prosperous society for a working youth', all this would curtail violence and make us have growing society.
In response, the youth leader of Alagbagba Muheeden Omotosho, appreciated the monarch for his empowerment program, particularly his scholarship program that over 500 indigenous of law had benefited from.
He charged him to continue his good work while calling on him to rescue them from clueless elders in their village who were taking over their farming land at the Alagbagba village.
