The Students' Union Senate Council of the University of Ilorin, has hnoured Rep. Tunji Olawuyi, member representing Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin and Oke-ero Federal Constituency of Kwara with award of Excellence for his sterling performance and contributions to the development of the state.
The Students' Senate President, Oluwafemi Akinyemi, at an event, tagged Students' Parliamentary Summit on Tuesday, at the University's Auditorium, said Rep Olawuyi's had embark on human oriented programmes that had direct impact on the lives of constituents.
Akinyemi said it was important for the Federal Lawmaker come to address them at the Students' Parliamentary Summit, as a way of mentorship.
Addressing the students, Rep Olawuyi, thanked them for the honour, while revealing that many of his programmes were self sponsored because the money meant for constituency projects was inadequate.
He said the nature of politics in Nigeria is putting a lot of pressure on Lawmakers because Nigerians had almost shifted the duties of the Executive Arms of government to the Legislature.
Rep Olawuyi told the students to remained focused, stressing that they could also aspire to be in any position with dedication and hardwork.
He also announced an undisclosed project he is facilitating to the school premises and promised them to expect it soon.
The Federal Lawmaker later launched the students' magazine called "The Mace" with the sum of N250,000 while all the State House of Assembly members from Kwara South supported him with an additional N250,000.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Abdulkareem Age, represented by Dr Alex Akanmu, Sub Dean, Student Affairs Unit, University of Ilorin, to present the award of Excellence to Rep Olawuyi.
