Group Warns Gov Abiodun Over Kadiri's Impeachment As Deputy Speaker





The National Association of Polytechnic Students, Nigeria NAPS has said the plan to impeach the Deputy Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Oludare Kadiri popularly known as Maba after the alleged invasion of Secretary to the state government, SSG Tokunbo Talabi and former lawmaker Odugbesan's house last week undemocratic and deserves thorough investigation before drawing to conclusion.

Accorsing to the news flying on Whatsapp loops belonging to several political gladiators in Ogun indicated at least 20 members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have signed a motion of impeachment of the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Oludare Kadiri, popularly known as Maba in a special meeting by the lawmakers on Saturday.



According to some confirmed sources, the impeachment attempt is a move by the house of assembly members to punish Hon. Kadiri for an argument between the legislator and Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, in the late hours of Friday.

"Hon. Maba who is also the chairman of the House Committee on Transport has been a progressive voice in the 9th Assembly through his moves to revamp the transport sector of the state.
 Investigations revealed that since the inauguration of the House Committee, Maba's moves has been stepping on the toes of old guards and greedy politicians who have been benefiting from sharp practices in the sector. Sources say that colleagues of the Deputy speaker have been waiting for an opportunity to get back at him." 
Ijaduoye said.

Meanwhile, Reactions have begun to trail the move from several quarters. One insider in the Ogun State legislative chambers said the move is nothing but vendetta against Maba. 

In other news, the National President of National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS who hails from Ogun State, who was quizzed by our correspondent condemned the move asking why there was no fair hearing to allow him defend himself. 

"The move to impeach Hon. Kadiri is not in the best interest of the people of Ogun State whom he's been defending and empowering. There is no justifiable reason to impeach Maba just because he voiced his grievances. We are keenly observing this show of shame by the legislators who are doing nothing but protecting their selfish interests. It is in the best interest of the lawmakers to employ common sense and not jeopardize the successes of this administration. " he added.

The NAPS president also advised the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun to wade into the issue so as to avoid a political crisis in the State. Ijaduoye also called on Royal fathers and distinguished leaders in Ogun especially of Ijebu/Remo extraction to intervene in matter. 

Other observers have vowed to resist the impeachment attempt so as to forestall that the Ogun State House of Assembly from undemocratic tendencies.
